Former swashbuckling Indian opener, Virender Sehwag, has praised Team India’s brilliant performances in their ongoing tour of New Zealand. The Men in Blue are currently 2-0 up in the five-match series, after they defeated New Zealand at the Bay Oval by 90 runs.
The ever-consistent opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave a dream start to the visitors, with a scintillating 154-run stand. However, both the openers got out before getting themselves to triple figures. On a flat batting deck, the Indian captain, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first, with his openers making full use of the conditions.
India brought up their 100 in the 18th over of the innings along with Rohit’s half-century. A short while later, Shikhar Dhawan, hit two consecutive boundaries to bring up another half-century.
New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, saw things getting out of hand before giving the bowl back to his best bowler. Trent Boult was brought into the attack and he paid dividends, dismissing Dhawan while Rohit also followed shortly afterwards.
Virat Kohli then continued the charge, before some brilliant bowling by the hosts saw India wobble in the middle. However, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav managed to score 35 runs in the last two overs of the innings to take the score to 324.
On the other hand, the Kiwis started their innings in good fashion. However, once their openers departed, the chase only went downhill. Captain Williamson tried to turnaround the innings with two sixes and a boundary off Shami. But the experienced pacer got his revenge as he had Williamson inside-edging.
The chase further went downhill, as Kohli turned towards the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The wrist-spinning duo completely dominated the Black Caps, as India sealed the deal despite Doug Bracewell’s fighting 57 run knock.
Following the victory, Virender Sehwag took to twitter to reveal his happiness over India’s dominating victory over New Zealand. He also praised young Kuldeep Yadav, who now has back-to-back four-wicket hauls in the opening two ODIs of the series.
“Mission Domination! Another dominant performance and an easy victory for Team India. Fantastic bowling performance in both matches from @imkuldeep18,” Virender Sehwag tweeted.
