English superstar, Jonny Bairstow, was a big name to go under the hammer at the 2019 IPL auction. The 29-year-old has been in splendid form over the past year in international cricket for England. Bairstow has been providing stability at the top of the order for the English side, which persuaded the SunRisers Hyderabad to go for him this auction.
The 2016 IPL champions picked Jonny Bairstow for a massive INR 2.2 crore. The orange army is looking stronger than ever, with David Warner also returning for them at the top of the order. SunRisers Hyderabad, however, will be without the services of their prolific run-getter, Shikhar Dhawan, who will be playing for the revamped Delhi Capitals this season.
Along with Bairstow and Warner, SunRisers Hyderabad will also have Kane Williamson in their ranks this season. Under the New Zealander’s captaincy, Hyderabad reached the finals last season. However, they were dominated in the final by Chennai Super Kings, thanks to a century from Shane Watson, who guided the returning Kings home.
Jonny Bairstow has made a brilliant comeback into the international circuit following an eight-week injury last month. The wicket-keeper batter scored a hundred to seal his side in the Test team.
In the 2019 IPL auction, 351 players went under the scanner, and with no Englishman lighting up the IPL, it will be a big opportunity for Bairstow to make history this IPL season.
