The franchise of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been one of the most famous franchises in world cricket with the big names of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli in it. However, the team is yet to win the coveted IPL Trophy, despite participating in three finals.
The auction for the 2019 IPL season went pretty well for RCB, and unlike most other teams, the management has ended up with an improved squad from last season. They have bolstered their squad with batting as well as bowling depth which will heavily increase their chances of winning the IPL trophy this year. Under the leadership of Indian captain Virat Kohli, the Bangalore fans are in for a hell of a ride this year.
The RCB, who finished runners-up on three occasions, are one Indian player short of completing their 25-man IPL squad for this season. In the auction, the team picked up seven local players while going for two foreign superstars.
A complete look at RCB’s squad for IPL 2019:
Retained: Virat Kohli (c), Yuvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Parthiv Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Kulwant Khejroliya, Navdeep Saini, Pawan Negi, Moeen Ali, AB de Villiers, Tim Southee, Colin de Grandhomme and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Traded in: Marcus Stoinis
Bought in auction: Gurkeerat Singh, Shivam Dube, Devdutt Padikkal, Akshdeep Nath, Prayas Ray Barman, Himmat Singh, Milind Kumar, Shimron Hetmyer and Heinrich Klaasen
RCB have the services of Virat Kohli and Yuzvendra Chahal, the two mainstays of India’s limited-overs line-up. Virat Kohli’s batting capabilities need no introduction while Chahal has emerged as one of the best spinners going around in the world right now. The two will be supported by the experienced Parthiv Patel and Umesh Yadav while the youth of Mohammed Siraj, Gurkeerat Singh and Shivam Dube will add metal to the RCB squad. With that being said, RCB has racked up brilliant local talent to support their case for the IPL trophy this season.
In the foreign line-up, the expertise of AB de Villiers on the cricketing field will be one of the main threats for the opposition. Mr 360 is one of the best all-round players the world has seen, while the services of established all-rounders including Moeen Ali and Colin de Grandhomme will make RCB even stronger. The addition of Heinrich Klaasen and talented Windies star Shimron Hetmyer will also enhance RCB’s abilities to contest for the trophy.
