Promising young talent Shreyas Iyer is all set to take up the challenge of captaincy in the upcoming super stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2019 where he will lead Mumbai. The classy right hander is given the responsibility in absence of senior batsman and test cricket specialist Ajinkya Rahane. It is been said by the officials that Rahane will miss the upcoming matches due to niggles but sources say that he though he is unavailable for the selection but he has not suffered any sort of injury.
The main reason of Rahane left out might be his performances in the league stage. His bad form might have forced the selectors to take this decision.
The Mumbai side is one with full of game changers in each aspect of the game. The young superstar Prithvi Shaw is retained and will continue to shine as an opener. The batting line-up also has the likes of experienced campaigners like Surya Kumar Yadav , Sidhesh Lad and Aditya Tare.
The bowling spearhead will be lead by Dhawal Kulkarni who has the likes of Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Royston Dias and Akash Parkar by his side. Meanwhile, the spinners section will be looked after by Dhurmil Matkar and Shams Mulani.
Well, this is not the first time that Shreyas Iyer is replacing the regular skipper in his team. He previously replaced Gautam Gambhir as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Also, he is likely to lead them again as IPL is on the board.
On Coming Friday, Mumbai will take on Karnataka in their first game at the Holkar stadium. Co-incidentally Mumbai played all its league matches in Indore.
