They won and won comprehensively against the Aussies which will give them a hell lot of confidence. More importantly, skipper Virat Kohli has got his winning combination which can get him the cup.
Indian pacer Md. Shami has been in good touch lately. His capability of swinging the ball both ways has troubled many batsmen. Also, it sometimes goes unnoticeable but he has better average and strike rate than Bhuvneshvar Kumar. However, Shami’s place in the team is not fixed and his performances are also fluctuating. This is the reason why the national selectors are showing interest in youngsters like Md. Siraj and Khaleel Ahmed. This means Shami’s place in the Indian side is not guaranteed before the world cup.
Meanwhile, Shami was the second highest wicket-taker for India in the 2015 ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. He bagged 17 wickets in seven games with the best figure of four for 35. In spite of his stunning performance, he has played only 5 one-day internationals since then.
The Bengal fast-bowler struggled in this IPL season returning with only three wickets in four matches at an economy more than ten. Consequently, the selectors dropped from India’s ODI squad for the all-important tour to England. However, with the rotational policy in place, the selectors called in Mohammed Shami for the first two ODI’s against the West Indian team. Meanwhile, his not so amazing effort has once against putting him back in the race for the 2019 World Cup squad.
So, it will be really interesting to see if the selectors show some more confidence in Md. Shami or seek for the help of young paceman Khlaeel Ahmed before the mega event.
