Real Madrid Captain and defender Sergio Ramos has finally opened up about his collision with Barcelona star Lionel Messi during El Clasico in the weekend.

After knocking Real Madrid out of Copa Del Rey in the mid-week, the two bitter rivals once again met for the La Liga encounter at Bernabeu. This was the third time both the teams faced each other in past one month.

Barcelona registered their fourth successive La Liga victory at Bernabeu thanks to a Ivan Rakitic goal making the difference between the two sides. A 1-0 win in the weekend makes it three wins for the Catalan side over Los Blancos across all competitions this season.

During the final minute of the first half Real Madrid Captain Sergio Ramos, collided with Lionel Messi, with the defender’s elbow catching the face of the Barcelona forward. The Argentine retaliate and the two skippers shared a heated moment.

Later Messi was seen showing his bleeding tooth to the referee. After that, it got nasty in the second half as Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet and goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter-Stegen decided to punch the Real Madrid Captain.

Following the match, Ramos laugh it out at Messi on the collision and insisted that the elbow was never intentional. Ramos said :

“These things happen,”

“I didn’t mean to catch him but he has taken it badly, and stayed down on the pitch.”

Talking about Barcelona’s performance and what went wrong for his side, Ramos said,

“No! But it is true that the other day, despite dominating the tie, here just as in the Camp Nou, that football is all about scoring goals and we did not have it.”

“We had a good opportunity in the league game and now we just have to congratulate them. It was not sufficient to just play well”, he concluded.

With the win at Bernabeu, Barcelona now leads in the overall record for the most wins in El Clasico, surpassing Real Madrid after 87 years.

With the loss Real Madrid are out of contention for the La Liga. On the other hand, Barcelona sits at top with 10 points ahead of second placed Atletico Madrid and 12 points ahead of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid and Barcelona will now turn their attention to second leg of Last 16 of UEFA Champions League. After a goalless draw against Lyon, Barcelona would be hoping to make it to the next stage.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will have to face Ajax, who looked superior in first leg despite losing 2-1 against the Los Blancos. To make it worse, Sergio Ramos is suspended for a couple of games and won’t be leading his side.
